'there are rewards,' said the prophet, 'for all endowed with fresh and tender hearts'
anyone who kills a sparrow for nothing, it will cry to god against him on the day of resurrection
there would enter paradise a people whose hearts would be like the hearts of birds
righteousness is that about which the heart and soul feels tranquil
there is none among believers who plants a tree or sows a seed from which a bird or person or animal eats but that it is regarded as a charity of him
Tired
17 January 2009
I'm tired of there being pictures of dead babies in my inbox = I'm tired of there being dead babies.
Me too. I think after the initial shock, gradually people become desensitised to such imagery. Also, that these were living souls, now just reduced to nameless corpses dehumanises them.
I received an email with even more graphic imagery and to be honest, I found the "Oh look at how horribly injured they are" tone to be very disrespectful to the dead.
People's bodies are very private in Islam and this same sense of modesty is usually extended to the dead, so is it right to disregard this, no matter what the circumstances?
I'm inclined to agree. I understand the desire to shock people into comprehension, but just en mass like this ... there must be both more respectful and more effective ways. We've all seen blurs of blood by now. We've all seen the dead and wounded tallied. What we've not seen is it make much difference.
